AS9100 Clause 7.1.1 – General

AS9100 7.1.1 General requires organizations to determine and provide the resources needed to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve the quality management system (QMS). This includes:

  • People with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Infrastructure, such as buildings, equipment, and information technology
  • Environment, such as the physical and organizational conditions in which the QMS operates
  • Resources for managing change

Organizations should consider all of the resources they need to meet their quality objectives, and they should ensure that these resources are available and used effectively.

They should also monitor and review their resource needs on a regular basis to ensure that they are still meeting their needs.

Some examples of resources that organizations may need include:

  • Qualified personnel, such as engineers, technicians, and quality professionals
  • Facilities, such as buildings, laboratories, and test equipment
  • Equipment, such as tools, fixtures, and measuring devices
  • Materials, such as raw materials, components, and consumables
  • Information technology, such as computers, software, and networks
  • Financial resources, such as money to pay for salaries, equipment, and materials
  • Time, to plan, implement, maintain, and improve the QMS

Organizations should also consider the need for external resources, such as consultants, contractors, and suppliers. When using external resources, organizations should ensure that these resources are qualified and that they meet the organization’s quality requirements.

By determining and providing the resources needed to establish, implement, maintain, and continually improve the QMS, organizations can improve their ability to meet their quality objectives and provide products and services that meet customer requirements.
